In 2004, the Orthodox Christian Student Living Center (OCSLC), also known as the NIKA House, was opened as the first on campus residence in the United States for young men and women of the Orthodox Faith. The Living Center is located at 112 E. John St. in Champaign.
Please see the web site www.ocaa-uiuc.org for a more detailed history of this ministry.
The NIKA House offers single furnished rooms for rent for both men and women. The rooms are air conditioned; they have DSL; the Dish Network; and each room contains a refrigerator. For rental information, please contact Fr. Michael. He can be reached by email at champaignpriest@aol.com. Fr. Michael and Fr. James, the pastor of the Orthodox mission in Urbana, share this ministry.
In addition, St. Philip's Chapel is located on the lower level. Divine Services are offered periodically throughout the academic year.
On Tuesday evenings, a complimentary dinner (6:00pm) and spiritual discussion is held at the Living Center during the academic year. Father also has pastoral office hours at the House, meeting students by appoointment .
In addition to rental income, donations are being sought for the ongoing support of the house and the infrastructure of this vital ministry. Please contact Fr. Michael for more information about giving opportunities.
